Your PIA might be increased, but will never be decreased, due to recomputation. Your PIA will be automatically recomputed if you have earnings in any year during which you are entitled to retirement or disability insurance benefits. If your earnings in an added base year subsequent to such entitlement are higher than earnings in the lowest computation year used in a previous computation of benefits, then your PIA will be increased. This is the case for all years you have substantial earnings (see #20-2, this section) after disability or retirement insurance benefit entitlement. The recomputation becomes effective in January of the year after the earnings were generated: an increased benefit due to a recomputation based on 2015 earnings will first be applied to the payment for January 2016.
